Overview of the Holvi Business Debit Mastercard
The Holvi Business Debit Mastercard is a traditional debit card that pairs with Holvi’s feature-packed business account. It helps you manage expenses, prep bookkeeping and stay tax ready.
When you buy something using your Holvi Business Debit Mastercard, funds are withdrawn directly from your business account. In other words, to use this card you’ll need sufficient balance on your Holvi account.
Managing card settings
To manage your card settings, log in at Holvi.com and go to Account settings > Payment cards. The settings include:
- Card general info
- ATM usage
- Geographical usage
- Lock and unlock card
- Review card PIN
- Unlock PIN if it's locked
- Cardholder settings
Failed and reserved payments
If your card payment fails, please wait a bit before trying again. Sometimes failed card payments may show up in your Holvi account with a reserved status.
These transactions will normally expire within 7 business days – but in some cases reservations will apply for 30 days.
Adding receipts and VAT to card payments
Any purchases you make with your card will show up in your Holvi account under Transactions, accessible from the main menu. From this page, you can edit transactions individually or in bulk, and recategorise transaction as you like. This is also where you can also add photos of receipts.
The easiest way to add receipts, VAT or bookkeeping notes to a transaction is to open the push notification. This opens the Holvi mobile app, where you can snap a photo of your receipt and add any extra details.
However, you can also upload a receipt and add VAT later by navigating to the transaction. Simply:
- Go to Transactions, then select a payment and attach a receipt or click the Attachments tab (when viewing an individual transaction)

Online, offline and contactless payments
Online payments
You can use your Holvi Business Debit Mastercard for shopping online. You can manage restrictions for online purchases in your Holvi account under Card settings.
Mastercard® 3D-Secure
We use Mastercard® 3D-Secure authentication to secure online payments made using your Holvi Business Mastercard®. Please read more about the 3DS here.
Connecting to PayPal
If the billing address you use to link a Holvi card to PayPal is different from your home address in Holvi, transactions may be rejected. In other words, it’s not possible to link your Holvi card to PayPal if you have your PayPal country set to Italy and your Holvi country of residence set to Finland. Both addresses must be in the same country.
Offline purchases
An offline purchase happens when the payment terminal (point of sale device) has no internet connection – for example, on an airplane or in some taxis if you travel off the grid. Offline purchases are possible with Holvi, but limited to 5 transactions or a maximum of €150.
You can ‘reset’ your offline purchase limit by using your card in an online payment terminal.
Contactless payments
To comply with PSD2 regulations, we’ve added an extra security step for when you make numerous contactless payments with your Holvi card. You’ll now be asked to add your card PIN whenever:
- You make more than 5 consecutive contactless payments
- The overall sum of several contactless transactions exceeds €150.00
