Who We Are

1. Who is Holvi?

Holvi was founded in Helsinki in 2011 by entrepreneurs, tired of the time and effort that money management and business bureaucracy took up.

We are a Payment Institution licensed by the Financial Supervisory Authority of Finland (FIN-FSA). Our headquarters are in Helsinki, while our product and service are fully digital and accessible from wherever you are. More information on here

2. Who owns Holvi?

In March 2016, Holvi was acquired by global banking group BBVA. Holvi will continue to operate separately under the same brand and with its own independent licence.

3. Our European Vision

Holvi is a banking service designed for small and medium sized entrepreneurs, giving them the service and support they need, but can't get from traditional banks. Holvi is the world’s first financial hub operating with its own Payment Institution Licence, authorised for operations across Europe by the Financial Supervisory Authority of Finland (FIN-FSA). Moreover, we’re operating under the supervision of the responsible national competent authorities in markets with localised services (Germany, BaFin and BMF).

Our service lives online and is accessible from anywhere to our users. We have Nordic roots, which can be seen in our innovative product and Finnish IBAN, but we have a European vision: We want to help entrepreneurs offer their services across Europe and keep track of their banking with ease from wherever they are.

We are a proud participant in SEPA: The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is a payment-integration initiative of the European Union for simplification of bank transfers denominated in euro. SEPA improved the efficiency of cross-border payments and turned the fragmented national markets for euro payments into a single domestic one. SEPA enables customers to make cashless euro payments to anyone located anywhere in the area, using a single bank account and a single set of payment instruments at the same charge as a domestic payment. People who have a bank account in a eurozone country, are able to use it to receive salaries and make payments all over the eurozone, for example when they take a job in a new country.

4. Our Team

We have a fast growing team of currently around 100 employees from over 20 countries. Our headquarters are in Helsinki, Finland, but we have dedicated people working on Holvi's product based in various European countries - just like our product, our office is also embracing the European Vision.
