What do region settings restrict?
Region settings apply strictly to in-store (physical) payments and ATM withdrawals.
- Online shopping is not affected: Your card can still be used for online purchases globally, regardless of your selected region setting.
The 5 region options
You can restrict your card's physical usage to one of five geographic zones:
- Domestic: Only usable in your home country.
- Nordics + Estonia: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and Estonia.
- DACH: Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
- Europe: All European countries.
- Global: Unrestricted worldwide usage.
Why use region settings?
- Fraud reduction: If you rarely travel outside your home country, locking your card to Domestic or DACH prevents magnetic stripe cloning or fraudulent physical use abroad.
- Team cards: If you issue cards to staff members who only buy supplies locally, you can restrict their cards to ensure company funds aren't spent during international trips.
- Travel safety: Set your card to Global before you board a flight, and switch it back to Domestic the moment you return home.
How to change your region settings
You can update your geographic restrictions instantly in the Holvi app or browser:
- Log in to Holvi and go to Account settings > Cards.
- Select the specific card you want to manage.
- Go to Limits and find the region settings section.
- Select your preferred region and save changes.
