How rolling limits work
Your 30-day and 365-day spending limits are rolling, which means they’re calculated based on your activity over the last 30 or 365 days — not by calendar month or year.
This ensures your available limit updates in real time based on recent transactions.
Rolling limit example
- On 15 January, you spend €1,000 using your virtual card.
- Your 30-day rolling limit is €5,000, so you now have €4,000 available until 15 February.
- On 15 February, that €1,000 is no longer counted toward the limit, freeing it up for use again.
Contactless payment limits
Contactless payments are subject to country-specific limits when using your physical card. These limits do not apply to Apple Pay or Google Pay, which allow higher amounts as they use your device's security (Face ID, fingerprint, or passcode) for authentication.
| Country / area | Contactless payment limit |
| Eurozone (most countries) | €50 |
| Austria | €25 |
| Germany | €100 |
| Denmark | 350 DKK |
| Sweden | 400 SEK |
| United Kingdom | £100 |
| United States | No official Mastercard limit (merchant limits may apply) |
⚠️ For your security, contactless payments are disabled by default until you make your first chip & PIN transaction.
How can I change my limits?
You can manage your spending at any time by adjusting your card limits. To do this, log in to the Holvi web or mobile app, navigate to Cards, and select the card you wish to update. From there, you can view and change your daily or monthly limits instantly under Limits > Change limits.
Security checks for contactless (PSD2 compliance)
To comply with European PSD2 regulations and enhance security, you will occasionally be asked to enter your PIN for a contactless payment. This happens when:
- You make more than 5 contactless payments in a row.
- The total value of consecutive contactless payments exceeds €150.00.
Simply enter your PIN when prompted — this resets the counter and allows you to continue using contactless.
Offline purchases
An offline purchase occurs when a payment terminal is not connected to the internet (e.g., on a flight, in a taxi, or at a remote location).
- You can make up to 5 offline transactions or a total of €150.
- This limit resets once you make an online (connected) transaction using chip & PIN.
