Sevdesk is cloud-based accounting software for freelancers and small businesses. Holvi connects to sevdesk in two ways: connecting your Holvi account as a bank account in sevdesk, and sending your bookkeeping data - categorised transactions with VAT rates and receipts. This guide covers both.
Note: Only users with the Creator or Admin role in Holvi can set up and manage connections. The bookkeeping data sync is available to Holvi business accounts domiciled in Germany.
Which connection do you need?
| What you want | Which connection | Where you set it up |
|---|---|---|
| My Holvi transactions should appear in sevdesk so I can do my accounting there | Bank account connection | In sevdesk |
| I want my categorised transactions, VAT rates and receipts sent to Sevdesk as vouchers | Bookkeeping data sync | In Holvi |
1. Bank account connection
This connection adds your Holvi account to sevdesk as a payment account, so your transactions are imported into sevdesk. You set it up from inside sevdesk, not from Holvi.
How to connect
- Log in to sevdesk
- Go to the Payments section in the navigation area
- Under Create payment account, search for Holvi
- Select Holvi and follow the steps to authorise the connection
- Confirm the connection with strong customer authentication when prompted
Your Holvi transactions will then automatically sync into sevdesk.
Note: This connection is renewed periodically under open banking rules. If your transactions stop updating, reauthorise the connection in sevdesk.
Adding a bank connection in sevdesk may require a paid sevdesk plan.
2. Bookkeeping data sync
This connection goes further than the bank account connection: it sends your categorised transactions with VAT rates and receipt images as vouchers, so you have less to enter by hand.
💡 How sevdesk handles your data:
- Draft Review: Vouchers land in your Drafts tab in sevdesk so you can review and adjust categories before booking them.
- Automatic Matching: When both the bank connection and bookkeeping sync are active, sevdesk automatically matches vouchers to their corresponding bank payments.
What it does
Every transaction you set to Locked (ready) in Holvi - with a category, a VAT rate and a receipt - can be exported manually to sevdesk. You authenticate once in Holvi and select the bookkeeping transactions to sync to sevdesk.
You keep your own books. There is no tax adviser in this flow, so you review and book the entries in sevdesk yourself.
Vouchers arrive as drafts for you to review
Vouchers arrive in sevdesk as drafts. They are not booked until you review and book them, so if a category has been matched to the wrong account, you can correct it before it reaches your books rather than afterwards.
Review your drafts in sevdesk before booking them, particularly in the first weeks after connecting, while you check that your Holvi categories map to the accounts you expect.
Before you start
- A Holvi business account domiciled in Germany
- An active Sevdesk account with API access.
- The supplier is identified by name on the entry, so you do not need to set up contacts in Sevdesk beforehand.
How to connect
- Log in at holvi.com
- Go to Account settings → Connections
- Under Bookkeeping data sync, select sevdesk
- Read the intro screen and give your consent
- Sign in to sevdesk to authorise the connection
- Done.
How to send transactions
- In Holvi, set the transactions you want to send to Locked (ready) - each needs a category, a VAT rate and a receipt
- Go to Export to sevdesk
- Filter by bookkeeping status, export status, cost centre, time period or card payments if you need to narrow the list
- Select the entries you want to send
- Send them
What gets synced
- Gross amount
- VAT rate
- The SKR account number derived from the category you set in Holvi
- Transaction date and reference
- Payment date and status, so a settled Holvi payment shows as settled
- The receipt image, where one exists - one receipt per voucher
Sevdesk can also link the voucher to the imported bank transaction, so you do not have to match them by hand.
What does not get synced
- Cost centres are currently not supported.
- No payments are ever initiated. The bookkeeping connection only sends data out of Holvi.
- Reverse-charge VAT for cross-border expenses is not handled yet
Note: Non-EUR transactions are exported in their original currency.
How to disconnect
Go to Account settings → Connections, select the sevdesk bookkeeping connection and click Disconnect. Data already sent stays in sevdesk, but nothing new will be sent.
Troubleshooting
My vouchers are not in my books. Vouchers arrive as drafts. Review and book them in Sevdesk.
A voucher has the wrong account. Correct it in sevdesk before booking, and fix the category in Holvi so future entries are right.
The connection shows an error. Check that your sevdesk account is active and has API access, then reconnect from Account settings → Connections.
