🌎 New in Holvi! Now you can send and receive euros via SWIFT. Foreign exchange transfers (currency conversions) coming soon in 2024.
Both outgoing and incoming SWIFT transfers are charged at a €6 fee per transfer – learn more about our SWIFT pricing here.
We understand that, in some cases, it can be inconvenient to receive a SWIFT transfer that incurs a fee. We try to manage this by being as transparent as possible about our pricing. As we introduce SWIFT to Holvi – and soon, foreign currency transfers – we’ll be learning from our customers how to best communicate the associated fees and possible deductions.
It’s important to remember that, while a €6 fee for an incoming transfer may be surprising, the money would not have arrived in your account before we introduced SWIFT transfers.
Someone sent me a SWIFT transfer instead of a SEPA transfer
In most cases, the fees and deductions associated with incoming and outgoing SWIFT transfers are known and agreed upon before a transaction happens.
However, if the sending bank is in SEPA and the sender has mistakenly chosen to send you a SWIFT transfer, these fees are unnecessary – and they may come as a shock. You may naturally be asking, ‘What recourse do I have?’
The answer, we’re afraid, is very little. The best thing you can do is politely inform the sender of their mistake and ask that they always send money via SEPA transfer in the future.
We’ve drafted this letter for you to download and send. It may prove handy if you expect to receive money from this person again.
