What is a money market fund (MMF)?
A Money Market Fund (MMF) is a type of mutual fund that invests in short-term, low-risk financial instruments like government bonds, treasury bills, and certificates of deposit. Its main goal is to provide investors with a low-risk place to invest easily accessible cash while earning a modest return. MMFs aim to preserve the value of the investment while offering liquidity, meaning the funds can be easily withdrawn when needed. Holvi at the moment offers a single money market fund managed by StateStreet Global Advisors. You can get all info about the fund from our website: www.holvi.com/de-en/earn-yield/
How exactly does trading work?
Our money market fund trades once daily in the early afternoon, with a trading cut-off at 11:45 CET. Buy and sell orders placed before this time are processed the same day in the early afternoon, while orders placed after 11:45 CET will be processed on the next business day. Since the fund trades only once per day, there is no 'real-time' price available; we display the last known price until the next trading cycle.
What is a unit?
A unit is a single share of the money market fund. Because we offer fractional units you can also buy or sell less than one unit. However, in this case the smallest tradeable amount is 0.01 of a unit.
Why do you estimate EUR amounts and unit amounts?
Our selected money market fund can be bought in EUR and sold in units. However, as a business owner, you may need to know how many units you’ll receive when buying or how much EUR you’ll get when selling – for instance, 'How many units do I need to sell to cover a tax bill of X EUR?' Because the fund only trades once per day, there is no real-time price for immediate conversion. Instead, we use the last business day's trading price to estimate the units (when buying) or EUR amount (when selling) you might receive. These estimates are clearly marked as 'Est.' and will be updated with actual amounts once your order is processed.
After the order
How do I fund the purchase of money market funds?
You can use the money in your Holvi payment account to fund purchases of money market funds. If you have multiple payment accounts with Holvi, you can choose any of them to fund the purchase.
When will money be taken out of my account if I buy units in a money market fund?
When you buy units in a money market fund, we place a reservation on your selected Holvi payment account as soon as you create your order. This reservation covers the full order amount and remains in place for up to 3 business days. Once the exact amount from your trade is confirmed, we release the reserved funds and withdraw the precise amount required. The final amount may be slightly lower than your original order due to fund trading behaviour, but it will never exceed the initial order amount.
Where do I receive the money from the sale of money market funds?
The proceeds from the sale of your money market fund units will be credited to your Holvi payment account. If you have multiple Holvi payment accounts, you can select any of them as the destination for the proceeds.
When will money be in my account if I sell units in a money market fund?
The funds from selling MMF units are credited to your Holvi account within 3 business days.
