Does Holvi charge a fee for international transfers?
Yes, for incoming and outgoing international transfers (SWIFT), we charge a fixed €5 or €6 fee plus a foreign exchange markup. The fixed fee and markup percentage varies depending on your current Holvi plan. See pricing for details.
Is the country you’re sending money to included in SEPA?
Transfers to countries within the Single Euro Payments Area are treated as local transfers, meaning you can send them as a normal bank transfer.
How does Holvi's currency exchange work?
When you send or get money in a different currency with Holvi, we convert it using a live exchange rate. This rate includes a markup, which helps us cover our costs and the risk of currency values changing.
The rate you see when you set up a transfer is current. If it's outside regular market hours, it might be an estimate, but the final amount you pay or receive will always be based on the exact rate at the time of your transaction.
The markup percentage changes depending on your Holvi plan, so check our pricing for the specifics.
How are international transfer fees billed?
International transfer fees are charged separately from the SWIFT transfers. They’re included in your monthly Holvi service fees invoice. When completing an international transfer, you’ll always see the final cost plus the transfer fee prior to confirmation.
You can find each monthly invoice in your Profile (top right) > Plan & billing.
Will the recipient get the full amount?
We do not deduct anything from your outgoing international transfers. However, it’s possible that the receiving bank may make deductions from your total amount.Â
This means that your recipient may receive less than you actually sent.
Different banks have different procedures for sending and receiving international transfers. Unfortunately it’s not possible for us to know what fees the receiving bank will charge, if any.
Why do we charge for international transfers?
International transfers are rarely straightforward transactions. Intermediaries are required to get your funds from A to B (or even from A to B to C to D) and a number of processes need to happen in order for the money to arrive safely. As such, we charge a small fee to cover our overhead costs.Â
